Chapter 1

Been an orphan can be somewhat hard. Not knowing your parents can be one thing but not knowing where you come from or why you are even here can be harder. I can remember living on the streets for a long time. Other kids also, older kids, lived on the streets with us as well and they too didn’t know much about there past, but as time went on, a lot of them moved on, they went and tried to get jobs, applied for school, done the things they wanted.  They moved on. Then one day, when I was around eight or nine years old, I was sitting in an alley way eating some food I had found when the side door to a club opened and a handsome man around twenty-three or twenty-four years old step out. I watched as he took out a smoke and placed it between his lips. I remember watching him from the edge of the bin. He was not someone of this world, he was different to humans, and I could tell from the way he stood, his face expression, and also his handsome looks.
Crawling on my hands and knees, I tried to get closer without making a noise. Since he was just standing there, and not really doing anything but smoking, maybe I could snag his wallet out of his jacket. Creeping up slowly, I kept watching his movements. It didn’t appear to me at the time, since I was only young, that he would actually be watching me.
My eyes were set on his wallet. If I could get that, then I wouldn’t have to worry about stealing food for a while. I would be able to actually buy the things I needed. I could see it, I remember it clearly. It was a black leather wallet; I could see it, since I was practically standing right behind him.
“Do you really think that’s a good idea?” He asked me. I froze, my hand hovering over the top of the pocket.
He turned to look at me, his ice blue eyes staring straight into my black dirty eyes.
“How old are you?” He asked me, the smoke still hanging out of his mouth.
“Why do you want to know?” I replied.
“Well you young, a little bit too young to be out on the streets. Especially around a nightclub that has Vampires been the main guests.” I narrowed my eyes. He was a vampire. I knew it.
“I’m eight years old. Name is Ria.” I said to him.
“Nice to meet you Ria, my name is Andrew and I’m five hundred years old.” My eyes widened. He was five hundred year old!? But he couldn’t be, even though he was a vampire, I was sure he was only a hundred or so years old. He was handsome and his features were ones of today.
“So what is a young child like you doing out on the streets?”
“I happen to live on the streets thanks. Have for a while now, since, well, its been a long time.” I said to him. I saw his eyes soften, like they were sorry for me, but the rest of his face stayed the same. Blank.
“Now if you will excuse me. I have some food to find.” I turned heading back to where I had my cardboard box home. There was no point in taking his wallet now, he had seen me and it would be a stupid idea anyway.
“Do you always live in that cardboard box?” he asked me. I remember the way came over and kneeled down in front of me.
“Yeah, it is the only home I know of.”
“Come, you don’t have to live here anymore. You can come live with me.” I looked at him, a frown appearing on my face. He wanted me to go live with him?
“You serious?” I asked him.
“Yeah I am. So come on, from now on, you are no longer a orphan, you will have a family Ria.”
New and Improved Ria and the Vampire. Named it Ria, only coz it is better and vampires pretty much explain themselves.
First chapter is a flash back in the past.
